Empress Bellydance is a creation of Kiera, a Central London based Bellydancer who has been entranced with the dance since 2003.
I have danced since I was 8, starting my dance career with Ballet, Tap and Modern Jazz dance and am a passionate advocate of all dance styles, finding that many genres compliment bellydance such as (Pan) African dance, Dancehall, Flamenco, Salsa, Bollywood and Ballet (yes Ballet!).
I also travel to the New Africa Shrine in Lagos, Nigeria to study the fundamentals of Afro-Beat dance created by my dear Aunty YK Power and remain interested in dances of the Diaspora. I have just started studying Dancehall with a very talented teacher, Verona, in London.
I began my bellydancing career at a now discontinued class at Lambeth College in Clapham with a wonderful teacher called Louise Collins and from the very first minute, I knew I was found! I continued my studies primarily under the tutorship of the inspirational and inimitable Josephine Wise (JWAAD) and have studied under a number of teachers, learning a variety of styles including Nubian, Oriental, Beladi and Saaidi.
I have completed a Foundation Certificate from Josephine Wise Academy Arabic Dance (JWAAD) teacher training and am currently studying for the Diploma in Teaching Egyptian Dance which I will complete in 2011. I have full liability insurance for teaching those aged 14 years and over and also hold a PPL licence.
